Horizontal Auger Boring

  • Used to install steel casings with diameters ranging from 305 mm to 1.8 m (12–72 inches)
  • Often combined with a Small Boring Unit (SBM) for drilling through solid rock.
  • Frequently used for cleaning out casings and culverts.

Pneumatic Pipe Ramming

  • Used to install pipes with diameters ranging from 305 mm to 3.6 m (12–144 inches).
  • Works in a variety of soil types, including gravel, cobble, and sand.
  • Can complete installations at any angle — from horizontal to vertical.

Guided Boring

  • Used to install 305 mm to 3.6 m (12 in to 144 in) diameter pipe.
  • Often combined with a Small Boring Unit (SBM) for drilling through solid rock.
  • Frequently used for cleaning out casings and culverts.

Down the Hole Hammer (DTH)

  • Capable of tunneling through cobbles, boulders, and solid rock.
  • Spoils are removed from the casing by airway augers.

Slip Boring

  • Used to install oil & gas pipelines ranging from 51 mm to 1067 mm (2 in to 42 in) in diameter.
  • Has a maximum installation length of 150 m (492 ft).
  • Does not leave casing in the ground.

Tunnel Boring / Pipe Jacking

  • Used to install pipe up to 4.2 m (168 in) in diameter.
  • Can bore through a variety of soil and rock strata, from sand to rock.
  • Tunnel diameters can range from 1 m and exceed 15 m (3 ft to 49 ft).

Surface Casing

  • Installs a starter casing, which guides the drill during HDD activities.
  • Casings average 30 m to 50 m (98.5 ft to 164 ft) in diameter, and can reach an installation length of 200 m (656 ft).
